The Power in Every Voice
Our Story
"From a clear and resonating truth, we found our purpose"
At the heart of our mission is the Voices in the Dark Repertory Theatre Company’s conviction that insight leads to understanding and understanding fosters acceptance. These core values shape our perspective on theatre as a force for change. We aim to cultivate environments where both artists and audiences feel acknowledged, listened to, and empowered. Through storytelling, we bring hidden stories to light, question systems of power, and encourage empathy across differences.
Our work is intended to spark meaningful conversations, provoke critical thinking, and build mutual understanding among diverse groups. Inspired by W.E.B. Du Bois’s philosophy—that art must be “by us, for us, near us, and about us”—Voices remains dedicated to centering the experiences of Black women, LGBTQ+ people, and other marginalized communities. We are committed to confronting systemic inequities, igniting conversation, and motivating the next generation of artists and social justice advocates.
Each production celebrates the resilience and creativity of our communities, recognizes the universal humanity that binds us all, and uses theatre as a medium to inspire reflection, empathy, and action. Ultimately, Voices is about transformation—of artists, audiences, and the world we share. We believe theatre can touch hearts, challenge perspectives, and help create a more just and compassionate society.
